In my 40s, I've finally embraced shorts, and it's been a liberating experience. I've always struggled with body image, especially after being called 'one of the chubby ones' in PE class at 11. This experience, along with many others, shaped my relationship with my body and led me to hide my legs for most of my life. However, I've recently discovered the joy of running and the freedom that comes with wearing shorts. I've learned to embrace my body and appreciate the strength and capabilities of my legs, which have carried me through the London Marathon and countless parkruns. While I still fight the urge to cover up, I've found a new confidence and a deeper understanding of self-acceptance. I encourage others to do the same and to wear the shorts, even if it's just for a run or a walk in the park. It's time to drown out the voices of body shamers and embrace the freedom and joy that comes with wearing what makes us feel good.
