During her time in office, Griffin implemented all 68 recommendations from a safety audit conducted by former Philadelphia Police Chief Charles Ramsey's firm. This audit aimed to enhance campus safety and address potential vulnerabilities. Griffin's efforts resulted in a decrease in violent crimes, including aggravated assaults, robberies, and thefts, in the patrol zone.
Her dedication to public safety was recognized with the national campus safety director of the year award in 2025 by Campus Safety Magazine. However, despite these accomplishments, Griffin faced criticism from the police officer union for not doing enough to attract and retain officers. The union called for her resignation in 2023, highlighting the ongoing challenges in maintaining an adequate police force.
Temple President John Fry acknowledges the importance of addressing police staffing issues. He has committed to implementing an officer staffing study released in December, which revealed that the university was below the middle tier of a framework that rates law enforcement agencies. Fry aims to increase the number of sworn officers by 58% over five years, hiring 29 patrol officers, one detective, six sergeants, and one lieutenant.
